Feels like Christmas morning

This morning, the doorbell rang early and KW went down to pick up a package. I thought it was probably the paper and office supplies we ordered yesterday. Then, the door opened and he came in with just one package from the States.

We opened it and this was what we found.

This package came from Val O and in the package is a baby blanket (I totally love the material), a set of baby clothes, a super cool set of bamboo chopping boards and a knife with a holder (I really need that coz my knife is dented at the tip).

Val O is a dear friend who has come to stay with us twice. So far, she has been voted the favourite house guest coz when she comes, she just nuahs. Totally no maintenance required. Her work keeps her so busy that when she has time to rest, wah, this girl really knows how to rest. Super shiok. I likes.

Looks like Christmas came early for us this year. Thanks Val!!!!!!! =)

Phone conversation

Last night, KW called home. My mom-in-law is clearly very excited about having a grandchild. Since it was past midnight when we called and our apartment is in the courtyard, I could hear everything she said even though KW was the one on the line. This was how a part of it went.

KW:…so the doctor saw the scan and said the baby’s features are pretty.

MIL: giggles (means she’s VERY happy) How is Jo? Can she eat?

KW: Ya, she eats a lot now. We had a friend give us ikan bilis yesterday and….

MIL: Did Jo eat them?

KW: Ya, she loved them.

MIL: Oh, if she likes ikan bilis, then it’s probably a girl.

KW: Huh? Is it? But she likes to eat anything these days…

MIL: Oh, if she eats everything, then it probably is a girl.

KW: Really? Is it?

MIL: Ya, I am happy with boy or girl.

KW: Ok.

MIL: Zai-ah, how about you? You like boy or girl?

KW: Mom. I waited 5 years already. I’ll take anything.

I thought that was quite funny.

My quick update

Since I really haven’t been blogging, I thought I’d do a quick update to let family and friends know how the pregnancy is going. But before I even start, I get stuck. Coz I can’t figure which week I am in.

When we first found out, we asked a friend for a recommendation to a gynae. She asked me, “how many weeks are you?”. Since I don’t have a super regular monthly schedule, I go, “er….I dunno.”

So I go for my first visit with the gynae and after the initial check, I promptly ask the gynae, “so how many weeks am I?” She happily tells me, “you are 10 weeks pregnant. The baby is 8 weeks old.” Ok, so I lock onto these 2 numbers. But the next time someone asks me, “how far along is the pregnancy?” I wonder, hmm…which number do I give?

So just so you know, I am now 15 weeks pregnant and the baby is 13 weeks old. The baby is doing well and it’s totally cool to see the baby move and hear the heartbeat go thumping fast and my own like an old factory churning in the background. The last ultrasound we did, we heard the heartbeat, did the measurements but the whole time, the baby didn’t move a single bit. So the doctor doing the scan shook my tummy vigorously with the transducer. No movement. So he did it again. No movement. We all started getting worried. He gave it another shake and then the baby suddenly stretches his/her arms and legs as if waking up.

Kar Wai says, “wa…the baby like you sia. Earthquake also cannot wake up.”

Other than that, I don’t think I’d be posting baby scans or my pregnant belly on the blog. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s really cool to be able to do that and I can completely understand the excitement. It really is amazing to have something growing in you. Our first sight of the baby led Kar Wai and I to exclaim, “Wa…”, leaving the doctor absolutely amused. The realisation that it’s actually real and moving is something totally awesome. So it’s just me. I’m more inclined to fit those stuff in a scrapbook for my kids than on our blog. Shy, la. =)
