WD250GB Drive E: is dead
Bad News
Drive E: has *just* died. It’s so strange, no prior warning, no funny sound, no weird ticks. Files became unreadable, then on boot up it didn’t register in Windows and now I hear the drive trying to power up over and over again. But it’s gone. From fully functional to dead in less than 5min.
Good News
It’s a backup drive of a backup drive. Thank you Jesus. The data is 99% more or less replaceable.
Weird News
This 250GB Western Digital PATA drive is from a 2005 batch. So it’s been running for about 3 years. Funny thing is that I have 2x 80GB Western Digitals from 2002 that I have been waiting to go kaput and they are still going strong.
It’s ok la, yay for Singaporean style kiasu triple backups.
“Dear, it’ll be big plus point when we show our portfolio to the clients, just think… we might even land a contract because of this.”
“Think of how it’ll be good for your back when you carry this around instead of your heavy Dell/IBM/Acer laptop.”
“It’s so light, it’ll be great for bringing this for our holiday… think of the weight savings.”
That’s right, share the love. =)

Posting on Photosites
Note: Re-posting this coz the last post was getting spammed.
From the CNN website:
A teen’s family is suing Virgin Mobile for using her picture, posted on Flickr.com, in an ad campaign.
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2007/09/24/intv.virgin.flickr.lawsuit.cnn
When pictures are posted on Flickr (and most other photo sites), the pictures are open to ‘fair use’ which might/might not include advertising campaigns. The teen’s family is suing coz she never signed a release for the image to be used. Although the teen’s family is likely to win the case, this case will take quite a while to resolve.

Update: New frustrating experience on 20 June 08!
DBS Corporate Banking (IDEAL) interface is a pain because:
1. It’s slow in Singapore. S-l-o-w as molasses. Citibank, UOB and HSBC Internet access is not, even in Paris.
2. It doesn’t have clear instructions to activate to the code gen device. Citibank has wonderfully clear instructions. HSBC in France doesn’t have it. UOB uses SMS.
3. DBS account management user interface is the worst I have seen. In my life. As a human being. As a ex-software designer.
‘OK’ buttons are renamed as ‘Open’ as and when they like it. Buttons are positioned in unexpected places.
5. I can only see my accounts, that’s it… SEE ONLY. I can’t transfer money to another account. In fact, I can’t do nuts except generating account reports. wow. wonderful.
6. Generating a report is slow. This is due to bad software and/or slow internal database access. Citibank, HSBC, OUB reporting is 50x faster.
So if you wish to experience the sensation of having your fingernails pulled out, please use DBS IDEAL.
Dear reader, if you have better experience with other banks, esp for business accounts, please leave me a comment ya? Thanks a mil.

PS: Citibank & HSBC are out coz initial deposit is a whopper load of cash.
In the last month…
we had a roller coaster of a ride. In short:
1. We were hit with some unexpected stuff. SIANZ.
2. We had a really good friend come visit and prayed with us. She literally had to ran off to pack her bags after our last meeting. The timing was that tight. HAPPY.
3. We had a major crossroad experience. It’s still pending. SIANZ.
4. I had a project was submitted for Sept07 and confirmed only last week. I get to play with Epson Exhibition Fibre for this one (HAPPYx2). Jo is waiting for another project to be confirmed this week. HAPPY.
They happened in that order. To say that the last 4 weeks was crazy is a real understatement. Jo & I will be pretty much tied up for a while till we head back to Spore in early Feb. Bak kwa land here we come.
